February Reading Wrap Up

Despite being the shortest month of the year, I managed to get a good amount of reading into February. I really find that reading before bed is the best way for me to unwind and relax before sleeping so I've been trying really hard to keep it up. I've read some really good books this month which are mostly unintentionally centred around mental health. So this has been an extremely eye-opening month for me! I started a few books this month that I didn't finish so my goals for March are to finish these and carry on with the books from my most recent book haul.

Mad Girl by Bryony Gordon - After reading, and loving, The Wrong Knickers I was very excited to read Bryony Gordon's second novel. With a slightly darker perspective, this is a book about the author's lifelong battle with mental illness. Despite that, it's actually a pretty funny book and is eye opening without being too heavy. There were a few issues that I had with The Wrong Knickers but this book really puts them into perspective. I'd recommend this book to anyone suffering from poor mental health or anyone who wants to know more about what it's like to suffer (ie everyone). I gave this one 5/5 stars.

Nerve by Jeanne Ryan - I never got around to watching the film so I'm glad I got my hands on this fast paced, fiction novel about an online game of dares. I found that I got wrapped into this book pretty quickly and that it was really fun and addictive - I guess almost like the game itself. That being said, I had a lot of issues with this book. It came across as really unrealistic and the characters were not relatable at all. It was a fun, easy read but I don't think it's very well written. I gave it 2/5 stars.

Chemistry by Weike Wang* - This is the memoir of a girl who is struggling to finish her PhD, unsure if she wants to accept her boyfriend's proposal and juggling the expectations of her parents. As a chemistry student, this book really struck a cord with me. The writing was beautiful yet brutally honest about depression and feelings of helplessness. I found it to be extremely addictive and I read the whole thing in one day just because I couldn't put it down. 5/5 stars from me.

Currently Reading - A Mindfulness Guide for the Frazzled by Ruby Wax.

As always, please leave me any recommendations as I'm always looking for new books to read.
