Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ60 Review

Whilst I love my DSLR, it's not the most practical camera if you want to take it out and about with you. It takes amazing blog photos but when you're travelling, or trying to take restaurant photos without looking like a massive weirdo it's just heavy and I felt like lugging it around was becoming a chore. I'd decided that I wanted a smaller camera that still took high quality photos. My iPhone 6 worked as a nice substitute but with an 8mp camera there was still a lot of room for improvement. After doing a bit of research I discovered that what I was looking for was a digital compact camera. Luckily for me I've had the opportunity to collaborate with John Lewis who have an amazing range of cameras. I settled on the Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ60* because it had a lot of features that I was interested in. Any photos in this post of the camera itself are taken with my Nikon D3100. Any other photos are taken by the camera itself.

The camera has 18.1mp camera which is a whole 10.1mp more than my iPhone - so a much higher photo quality. If I want to take any videos it can record in full 1080p HD. Whilst I think my professional vlogging career isn't in my immediate future - this is still a handy feature to have! But for me the real benefit is the wifi setting. By downloading an app to your phone you can instantly send photos from the camera to your phone. This is really handy as a blogger as if I take a nice photo on my camera I can Instagram it almost instantaneously. It took me a while to set it up as it's a bit confusing but once I'd gotten it sorted it's really easy to use. Using the wifi you can also remotely operate the camera so if you want to take outfit of the day photos for your blog then that could be really helpful.

One feature I really enjoy on my DSLR is the live view finder, I find that using this makes for much better photographs. So I liked that this camera has one even though it's a digital compact. Or you can use the digital one if you wish. Like a DSLR you also have manual control over the aperture and shutter speed and with a 30x zoom you can take some pretty impressive photos. The camera comes with a rechargable battery that you can recharge by plugging the camera body in itself, this is nice because you don't need to bring a separate charger with you if you have a usb adapter plug.

Overall the quality of the photos taken from this camera is really great considering the price tag. No, it cannot totally replace my DSLR in terms of quality but considering the price difference and the size difference that is to be expected. It creates a nice middle ground for me between my phone and my DSLR for blogging photos. It's also going to be really helpful for producing higher quality Instagram shots without having to go to the effort of uploading the photos to my laptop and then transferring them to my phone. For me the real benefit is the size/weight.

Taking this camera out is so easy in comparison to a DSLR. It's not as heavy and it fits easily into a pocket or small bag. I do miss having a camera strap around my neck a little bit but this comes with a wrist strap if you want to secure it a little more. I'll definitely be using this camera instead when out and about. For restaurant reviews, travel posts, outdoors OOTD etc. I can't wait to use it more and I'm really glad to have it in my tech collection. Overall the Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ60 is getting a thumbs up from me.

What cameras do you use for your blog? Are you team compact or team DSLR?

  1. This is a hugely helpful post for someone who is relatively new to blogging and photography. I have an older Panasonic Lumix model, but at this point my Galaxy s5 has outpaced it. This camera has some great features and might be one I look into in the future!

  2. This post was super helpful! I use my DSLR for my blog photos, but I have been looking out for a small camera for out and about, so I'll definitely have to consider this one. It seems like a pretty decent price for such good quality photos! :)
