September Empties

Hello everyone. After the phase of doing no empties or favourites post for the past couple of months I want to get back into the swing of things. I'm still not really in the mood to do a favourites post but today I have an empties one for you. I've managed to use up 10 products this month which I'm really quite proud of and I have a few more that are definitely on their way out. Also I've made a Facebook page for my blog and I'd really appreciate it if you could give it a like!

The Body Shop's Vineyard Peach Body Scrub - I reviewed this a while ago, you can read that review here. Towards the end of this I got so bored of the scent and didn't really enjoy using it. It wasn't a great scrub and I don't think I'll be repurchasing this or any other The Body Shop body scrub. I recently made my own which I really like or I think I'll go back to Soap & Glory because the quality is so much better.

Avon's Moroccan Argan Oil Conditioner - I really like the Moroccan argan oil range from Avon but I find the shampoo to be too heavy so I only use the conditioner. I really like how soft and smooth this makes my hair feel. It's also great when used with the oil as well. My mum's a hairdresser and she uses this range a lot and her clients really like it. I'll repurchase.

Impulse Hot Pink Shower Gel - This was part of a gift set that I got for Christmas. It's not something I would really buy for my self but it was still nice! The scent is very tropical and fruity, definitely one for you if you like sweet scents. As shower gels go it was pretty decent. I don't think this is actually available for purchase.

Yankee Candle Pink Dragon Fruit - You may remember this from my Yankee Candle haul a while ago where I said that this wasn't a very strong scent. It's one of those scents where you burn it and you can't smell it but if you leave the room and you come back in you're like 'oh what's that?'. It smells like dragon fruit which kind of smells like watermelon. I only really bought this because they were on three for two and there were another two scents that I really wanted. I wouldn't repurchase this.

Aromas Spain Apple Jar - This is a really cool thing that I got on holiday whilst in Lanzarote last October. It's a little jar full of a scented oil and sponge that you just leave sitting open. The smell just completely takes over your room, it's kind of like having a candle burning all the time. I bought the apple one because it was my favourite out of the scents but each scent is supposed to do something for a problem like headaches, aches and pains, improving memory and your sex life etc etc etc. It was nice but it stopped smelling so strong after a while. You can buy them online for about 4 times as much as I paid at a market. I'd repurchase if I ever went back and found them in Spain.

No7 Beautiful Skin Quick Thinking Wipes - Everyone always goes on about how bad skin wipes are. I personally don't really care as I only use them to remove eye make up. I love the No7 ones as they're really good quality and the plastic lid keeps them really fresh. And they're £2 with a voucher, bargain. I've already repurchased.

DKNY Delicious Night Perfume - If you read my perfume collection  then you'll know that I absolutely love this perfume. I sprayed it on my self in the shop and loved it and then it smelt completely different after I bought it! I've been trying to use this up for 5 years and still haven't so I just decided enough is enough and I'm going to bin it. I feel so much better without this staring up at me from my drawer. Definitely not going to repurchase but I do like the original green one.

Vaseline Rosy Lips - I actually feel so proud of myself for finishing this, I've had it for two years. I really liked this. It smelt really nice and because it had rose and almond oil in it it's a lot more moisturising than the original vaselines. I'm not sure if I'd repurchase this just yet as I still have few lip balms to get though.

Bath & Body Works Hand Sanitizer in Wildberry Dahlia - My boyfriend brought me this and a few others back from Florida. These are really great but I found the scent of this one too be a bit overpowering and strong. I've got a full post going up about the hand sanitizers tomorrow.

What have you used up this month?

Make Up Starter Kit

My little sister turned twelve on the 20th and she asked me to buy her some make up. Oh they grow up so fast. As a beauty blogger, this excited me a little bit and I started planning. I thought I'd show you everything I bought because it would be useful to any younger readers or just interesting to anyone. I decided to go for the one of everything approach but if you're buying make up for yourself you don't need to buy everything! Everything here can be bought from Boots or Superdrug. Boots also had a buy one get one half price offer on which was really great. If you're buying make up for yourself for the first time then I'd recommend waiting until this sort of offer is on because buying a lot of make up at once can get pretty expensive!

Face
If you're going to be applying a powder or blusher then you're going to need a brush! So I got a Superdrug Powder Brush and then also got her the Rimmel Clear Complexion Powder and the MUA Mosaic Blush to use alongside them. I also got her the Collection Lasting Perfection Concealer which is an amazing product for the price of it! You could also buy a foundation if you wanted but I don't think my sister really needs one, she's very young. Whereas a concealer can just be put on problem areas and doesn't need to be applied over the whole face.

Eyes
I think you can get away with cheaper eyeshadows if you have a good enough base to put them on. So I got the Rimmel Exaggerate Eye Primer and then the Natural Collection Eye Duo in Mocha Latte. I also got a Cosmopolitan Eyeshadow Blending Brush. Liquid eyeliner could be a bit controversial here but my sister asked for one so I bought her the MUA Liquid Eyeliner this is my favourite eyeliner ever and it's only £1. I also bought her a Beauty UK Lash FX Mascara.

Nails and Lips
My sister really likes pink so I got her a Barry M Nail Paint in Strawberry Ice Cream and a Seventeen Quicker Sticker Colour in Pink Glitter to go over the top. I also picked up a MUA Lipstick in Nectar for £1 as it would be a nice thing for her to experiment with.

And that's everything. My sister really loved everything that I've got her which made me really happy. I hope this has helped anyone that might be starting to get into make up or you just enjoyed reading this if you already are!

Mallzee Launch Party

On Tuesday night I attended the launch party for Mallzee which is a new shopping app. Mallzee allows you to enter some of your favourite brands and preferences then it allows you to search through them all on the one app to find something you'd like. It's pretty cool(and free) so is worth a download! I met up with a few other bloggers for food beforehand so by the time we arrived the party had already started. We went to Bristo if you're interested. I ordered a teriyaki chicken burger and it was absolutely amazing. The alcohol was flowing, hello cocktails, and the music was in full swing.

Not long after we arrived Cally, the CEO of Mallzee, gave us a speech about how they'd come up with the app and where they want to go etc etc. It was actually a really funny and easy to listen to speech. They also showed us their new promo video for the app which I really liked. The event was hosted in one of the Edinburgh University buildings. Don't ask me which one because I'm really not good with directions in Edinburgh! However it was really nice and swanky. I actually felt quite out of place as there were so many 'fashionista' types. Never the less I was really flattered to be invited.

Ok. That's a pushable cake pop! How awesome is that? I took two. Not sure if that was allowed but I only had one cocktail so I'm sure that makes it ok. I wasn't actually hungry so I tried to take them home. Big mistake. The lids fell off in my pocket and the whole top layer of icing fell out into my pocket. I was quite gutted but my dog was very happy to be appointed the role of having to lick the pocket clean. Thank god it was my mac and cleaned up pretty easily! I had the carrot cake one pictured above and gave a lemon one to my sister. They were nice but not the best cake I've ever had.

See? Didn't I tell you it looked very swanky! They also had a tweet globe so tweets with the hashtag #mallzeefoundme were appearing on the globe. The atmosphere was really cool and I had a great time. Unfortunately I had to leave a little bit early to catch a half nine train but I would have loved to have stayed until the end of the event for a better mingle. Yesterday's blog post was an OOTD of what I wore to the event if you would like to see that then click here.

If you would like to find out more about Mallzee then check out their website. If you want to download it you can do so here on the app store. I was not paid to write about this.

OOTD: Mallzee Launch Party

Hello everyone. On Tuesday I went to the launch of Mallzee, a brand new fashion app, in Edinburgh with some other bloggers. I'm going to do a more in depth post about the event tomorrow but for now I thought I'd show you what I wore to the event. Also these photos were taken at the event because I ran out of time to take photos before I left so sorry if they lighting is a bit crap. Thank you to Gillian for taking the photos.

Dress - George @ ASDA
Shirt - Peacocks
Boots - New Look
Bag - TK Max
Lipstick - Brick O La by Mac

My necklace was from a little hippy shop somewhere in England, I can't even remember the name of the town never mind the store! It's a little sun and I really like it. I haven't wore it in a while so it was nice to break it out. I felt very, very under dressed at the event and wish I'd gone for something a bit posher. There were lots of very fancy fashionable people and I felt like an idiot in my checked shirt if I'm honest. Oh well, I'll know next time!

I don't know what my face is doing in this photo.

Things That Make Me Happy #50

1. These angel food cup cakes look absolutely delicious and are beautifully presented. It feels like forever since I've done some baking. My oven gloves are itching to get to it.

Source

2. I love this little bit of nail art, the feather is so cute. It looks very easy. It's also on short nails. It seems that most nail art is done on talons and I can't stand it when my nails are long!

Source

3. I really like the mirrored effect of the vase in this picture. A nice little piece to brighten up a room.

Source

4. This is the Hungarian parliament building! Have you seen the Scottish one?! We sure as hell pulled the short straw there.

Source

5. I absolutely love the detailing on this dress. I think it's a wedding dress but it would look great for prom too. My prom has been booked(June 6th) and everyone is going a bit dress crazy. And by crazy I mean the fights have started already. It's going to be a long year.

Source

6. Inspirational quote of the week.

Source

7. This is just far too cute. I love babies in Halloween costumes.

Source

8. Now this looks like it might be a heart attack in a dish. Don't say that like it's a bad thing.

Source

9. I was in a restaurant on Tuesday with some other bloggers and they had bookshelf wallpaper. I want some bookshelf wall paper!

Source

10. Preach it Galileo.

The £1.99 iPhone Case

As a few of you may have seen on twitter/instagram I recently became an iWanker joined the iPhone family. The contract I had on my Samsung Galaxy Ace had run out(and it was a piece of crap to begin with, so I decided to set myself up a contract for an iPhone 4. I know there's this whole hoo haa about the new iPhones coming out but to be honest I'm not a 'crazily attached to my phone' girl so I just went with the cheapest option. So far I'm loving it. I decided to hit up Ebay and look for some lovely phone cases to go along side it. The first one I ordered was this one in baby blue (no longer for sale).

I love love love it. I think it looks so cute and I really love the little love heart around the camera. The best thing about this is that it was only £1.99 including postage which only took two days. Also when they say that it's ultra thin, they really aren't messing around. It fits perfectly but you don't really feel like you're holding a phone in a case. It also came with a screen protector which is great because I'm terrified of scratching my screen!

Fickle Temporary Tattoos

Hello everyone. Today I'm going to be talking about these temporary tattoos from Fickle that I was sent for review purposes. Fickle are a relatively new company that source tattoo designs from lots of different designers worldwide and turn them into temporary tattoos which is pretty cool. I think we all have childhood memories of temporary tattoos. Thinking we all looked extremely tough and that everyone in ASDA thought it was actually real and that you were extremely reckless. My sister actually couldn't pronounce tattoo for a couple of years and it's a bit of a joke in our family to tall them 'taoos'.

All the designs on Fickle are really nice but I can't really see most of them as being things that people would actually get tattooed. If I'm honest I didn't want to put them somewhere visible incase strangers thought I'd gotten a pointless tattoo. I think it would be really cool if they had a feature where you could upload your own design/quote and get it made into a temporary tattoo so that you could test it out and see if you liked it. I think that would be a lot more useful for those considering a tattoo. That being said I think that for something like a festival, party, hen night, halloween etc. these wold be pretty cool. They actually have a collection just for festivals. I was sent the lucky rabbit, arrows and lucky we met designs. My favourite is the rabbit, I also love that the white transfers as well and it's not just an outline. My favourite designer on the website is Gregori Saavedra because I think his designs are really quirky.

The application is no different from the ones that you used when you were a kid. Peel, stick, soak and remove. My sister and I tried a good couple of times and we weren't able to get them to apply flawlessly. Every one ripped a little or distorted the image. The best outcome was the bunny below where a little hole ripped out his belly. They're two for £5 which isn't exactly breaking the bank but I just expected a little more from them. I don't want to sound like such a negative Nancy but they just don't look right with rips etc on them. Maybe it's just us. They lasted pretty well but what's the point in having a tattoo that lasts for a week if there's a hole in the middle? However I think that they'd be great for a festival or a party. Some of the 'colourful' or 'animal' designs would be good for kids.

September Wishlist

September Wishlist

1. I first saw this jacket on this wishlist and I haven't stopped thinking about it. I always buy a new coat each winter but normally stick to black. I really like the camel colour. At £75 it's not exactly cheap but if it's good quality then it would last me a long time. The only thing is I don't have an Oasis near me so I can't try it on.

2. I love this little heart shirt. It's so cute. I own very few 'nice tops' just plain old t shirts and really want a few nicer pieces. I think this would look great tucked into some high waisted jeans or with a skater shirt.

3. This jumper is a bit gimmicky but I do love bull terriers. How adorable are they as puppies? I wonder if my dog would get jealous. If anyone knows anywhere that sells chocolate Labrador jumpers/shirts/dresses then let me know!

4 & 5. I'm on a mission to get myself some nice boots. I've already decided on my flatter more 'sensible' pair but am a bit undecided on the heeled pair. I love the laced up pair as they have a bit of a kick ass edge but the zipped ones look so much more classy. What are your favourites?Edit: since scheduling this post, I have bought the laced up pair.

Week In Photos #50

Nails / Winnie
New phone case / Work selfie

Just to start off with... how crazy is it that this is my 50th week in photos post? I mean I don't do them every week so I've definitely been doing them for over a year. At one point I need to sit down and read through all the old ones because I bet it would be really interesting! I love writing week in photos posts but often I just don't have enough photos. My old phone's battery had gone off so I wasn't really taking photos because 50% of the time my battery had died. My contract ran out and I now have a new shiny iPhone so I'm pledging to do these posts more often. I also have a few instavideos if you'd like to see them too!

Not much has really happened this week as I've mostly just been at school. I had a chemistry NAB on Thursday so I'd been studying a lot for that. It paid off and I got 18/20 for it. Super pleased. Since starting advanced highers I've really been feeling like I'm struggling. I got told by a lot of people that the jump from higher to advanced higher isn't as bad as going from standard grade to higher but I'm feeling the other way around. Especially maths. I missed 4 lessons whilst off with a throat infection and I still don't feel properly caught up.

Next week I might be going to a blogging event(although train schedules are really working against me) and the Edinburgh University open day(after missing the last one because of a throat infection. So hopefully should have a lot to write about.

Review: Aussie Miracle Hair Insurance Leave In Conditoner

Over the last couple of weeks I've noticed that my hair has gotten a lot more dried out which results in tangling and knotting a lot more. Then I realised that after my last deep conditioning treatment ran out I never bothered to replace it and have just been using a regular conditioner. I think it's just been the lack of upkeep that's kind of ruined my hair. I've given myself a bit of a kick up the bum and have started looking after my hair a lot more. One of the things that I pulled out of my collection was this the Aussie Miracle Hair Insurance Leave In Conditoner.

I've been reaching for this a lot more recently. The only reason I hadn't before was out of plain laziness. You spray a little bit of this into wet hair and then brush through before drying. It has the same sent as my favourite hair product ever, Aussie 3 Minute Miracle, so this was a major plus for me. It's not really a scent I'm good at describing but it's kinda sweet and kinda minty at the same time. Just trust me: it's amazing. I've found that this has really softened my hair and makes it very smooth, bye bye frizz. I have curly hair and it makes my ringlets a lot more defined. I also found that it reduces the drying time of my hair, bonus! One of my main irks with leave in products is the feeling of a greasy residue and I'm glad to report that I didn't experience that with this. All in all I find this to be a great product and I've found that it's really improved the quality of my hair lately.

Veil Cover Cream

Hello everyone. I was kindly asked to review a product from Veil which I think is really cool. They sent me the demonstration kit in original. If you haven't heard of Veil they're an on-line brand that sell products that give heavy duty coverage for scars, tattoos, rosacea, discolouration etc. I have some mild rosacea on my cheeks and sometimes I really wish it wasn't there. I'm not uber concious of it so I only cover it up for parties or special occasions but I'm glad to have this kit now.

This kit contains 20 different shades and a translucent finishing powder. This would be really great if you're a make up artist as you can mix them all up to suit different skin tones. One of the things that puts me off buying high street foundations is that I can never find one that 100% suits me. For this I mix up natural with peach and then add a little bit of the white(pale girl saviour). The consistency is really thick so it does feel a bit heavy but to be honest I don't think you can really achieve such heavy coverage without it being thick. A little does go a long way though and I can see these tubs lasting for a lot of applications. The shade rose will also make a lovely cream blush. The little tubs are also detachable from the book so you could carry the ones you use in your make up bag.

Now how well does it work? As the rosacea on my face is very mild it doesn't show up too great in photos to begin with so I'm enlisting the help of my mum and one of her tattoos. This small tattoo is on my mum's upper arm and she absolutely hates it! I used this tutorial from Veil themselves to cover her tattoo and it took me about 10 minutes. You can still see it a tiny bit but overall I'm quite impressed. I wouldn't recommend buying the demonstration kit though unless you're a make up artist because there are just too many shades for personal use. If you're buying it for your own skin then I'd say get one of the colour matching kits because they're a lot cheaper and you'd get more use out of it.

Recipe: Coconut Loaf

Today I'm sharing a really old family recipe. I have no idea where this came from, just that everyone on my mum's side of the family seems to know about it. It's absolutely delicious and very easy! To me this is a very homey recipe and I just find it so comforting. It will also make your house smell AMAZING. This recipe is enough for 1 loaf but I'd recommend doubling it as you can store it in tinfoil and it keeps quite well.

Ingredients:
2 cups self raising flour
2 cups sugar
2 cups dessicated coconut
2 eggs
4 tablespoons of milk

Method:
1) Pre heat oven to gas mark 4.
2) Combine all dry ingredients.
3) Add eggs and stir.
4) Add the milk bit by bit, you might more than 4 tablespoons.
5) Cook for 1 hour.
6) Remove from the oven and leave to cool for a bit.
7) Cut into slices roughly half an inch thick.
8) Best served warm with lots of butter.

Please let me know if you make this! Sorry for the bad photo quality. I'm so much more of a night baker. If this is the first post you're reading on my blog believe me, the photos are normally better.

The Autumn Tag

Hello everyone. I'm going to be doing the autumn tag that was started by Georgina from Makeup-Pixi3 as the weather has taken a turn for the worst in Scotland at the moment and I definitely have the autumn feeling. Fear not, it's actually my favourite season. I was tagged on Your Almost Alice and I also saw this tag on Ramblings Of A Beauty Bird and she was tagging everyone so I decided to do it.

For Autumn, what is your...
1.  Favourite thing about it? Probably just the changing colours and crisp autumn mornings. I love walking to school on a cold but not too cold morning wrapped up in a scarf and seeing all the orange leaves. Oh and Halloween, let's not forget about Halloween!

2.  Favourite drink?  I really love the chai tea lattes from Starbucks but I'm actually lactose intolerant so I know I really shouldn't have them. I also love hot chocolate but I normally just make that at home. With marshmallows - of course.

3.  Favourite scent/candle?  Last year I would have said my favourite candle was Mango and Peach Salsa from Yankee Candle but I've now burnt that all the way down so I'm not sure what I'll be burning this autumn. I love cinnamon scents but sometimes find them to be a bit over bearing. I think my go to perfume this season will be the Lady Gaga one.

4.  Best lipstick?  My two favourite lipsticks for a dark lip are Grace by No7 or Dubonnet from Mac. I've also been wearing Brick O La by Mac a lot as well recently so I'll probably get a lot of wear out of that as well!

5.  Go to moisturiser?  To be honest I don't really change my moisturiser depending on seasons, just whenever the one I'm using runs out. At the moment I'm using the No7 one for oily skin but I'm not really a big fan.

6.  Go to colours for the eyes?  I really love a gold all over the lid and then a purple/berry toned shadow in the crease with some thick winged eyeliner.

7.  Favourite music or band/singer to listen to?  I tend to stick to more acoustic music in the autumn but I don't really know why.

8.  Favourite outfit to wear (i.e. boots & a scarf combo)? A pair of high waisted jeans, a plain tee, a checked shirt and some killer boots. Yes please.

9.  Autumn treat?  I normally buy myself a new pair of ankle boots at the start of every autumn. I think this year I'll buy a more 'sensible' pair but also a heeled pair.

10.  Favourite place to be?  In my bed with a hot drink and a good book! It's also going to be my first autumn with my new doggy and I'm sure I'll be loving the dog walks down the trail too.

Like Sasha I'm not too bothered about tagging specific people so if you want to do this tag then consider yourself tagged. Please let me know if you do it because I'd love to read it.

Review: ELF Studio Matte Lip Colour

Hello everyone. I was kindly sent a few Studio Matte Lip Colours from ELF for review purposes and they're now my new favourite lip products. I've had my eye on these for ages so I literally squealed with excitement when I found out they would be sending some my way. The matte lip colours are basically lipsticks in the form of a lip pencil, I find them a lot easier to apply than normal lipsticks as it allows you to be more precise. I wouldn't say they're 100% matte as they do have a little bit of a shine. I like this as it means they aren't as drying as a fully matte lipstick but if that's the effect you're looking for then these maybe aren't the products for you.

I really like how long lasting these lipsticks are. I can wear them for about 5 hours with eating and drinking and they still look great. With the exception of Rich Red they barely even transfer onto glasses. They apply very smoothly and feel really creamy and soft. I also really like that they twist up meaning that you don't have to sharpen them. One thing that really bugs me about the packaging though is that if you twist it down past the way it is in the photo above it breaks and won't twist back up. It's really easily fixed but I've broken mine quite a few times by accident! All in all though I think that for £4.50 you're getting a really great product. Plus if you like the ELF Facebook  you'll see they often have discount codes/free shipping so you can bag yourself a bargain.

Nearly Nude isn't really a colour I'm a big fan of. I think it looks a bit 'foundation lips' on me but that might just because I'm so pale. It might look a lot nicer on different skin tones. That being said the application was perhaps the smoothest out of all of them and it did last a long time.

Rich Red is a classic, beautiful red lip. Whilst in this swatch it looks a bit sheer, I never actually noticed that until I took a photo and zoomed in. It looks great when it's not up close. Unless people are going to be scrutinising your lipstick with a magnifying glass, I would really recommend this as an affordable red lipstick. Or if people are going to be scrutinising your lipstick with a magnifying glass, it would make a great lip liner.

For me Coral was my favourite out of the three I was sent. It's a gorgeous colour and not something I would usually go for myself. I'm so glad they sent me this as it pushed me to go out of my comfort zone a little bit and I've found a new love. I've worn this nearly every day since I got it and I've gotten so many compliments. I'm so annoyed that I discovered my love for this colour just as summer ends!
