Review: Revlon Just Bitten Kissable Balm Stain in Honey

The Revlon Just Bitten Kissable Balm Stains(I'm only going to type that once!) hit up a massive buzz on the blogosphere when they came out. The best dupe to Clinique's Chubby Sticks on the market, these offer long lasting lip colour at the cheap price of £7.99. There are a wide range of colours but I decided to go for Honey, a very nude pink. I would say that this is a 'my lips but better' colour with a definite pink tinge. I really love this. It's a perfect colour for when you don't want something so eye catching on yours lips, for example I wear this to school all the time and still feel rather confident. Once applied I would say this lasts as a stain for about four hours or so and they hold up pretty well against eating and drinking. but I do think it needs touched up within that time for it still to look perfect. They're so easy to apply. They twist up from the bottom so don't require any sharpening, which makes them a really good product to take with you if you're travelling for a while. They're also very smooth in consistency and glide onto the lips and don't tug on your skin. I think these are definitely worth the hype that they've received  The colours are all so nice, I have my eye on crush as well, and the quality is superb.

I can't compare these to the Chubby Sticks as I've never tried one, but I'm so pleased with this that I wouldn't want to spend the money on one. The only flaw that I can find in this is the scent/flavour. It smells and tastes of quite a strong mint essence, and not really in a good way. Although this disappears about 10 minutes after application so it's not really all that much of a problem. Plus I've read reviews where people said they liked this, I guess it's just down to personal taste.

The Used And Abused

There are some products that I own and want to review. But they're so overused and 'skanky' that I'd feel a little bit embarrassed posting photos of them on my blog. So I came up with this idea 'the used and the abused'. It's basically a post where I showcase all my old but well loved favourites and write a little mini review of each product.

Sleek Storm Palette This is my most used palette. Admittedly it's been left behind a little bit ever since I got my Naked palette but it will always hold a valuable place in my collection. These shadows are all super pigmented and have crazy staying powder. I can create at least 10 different eye looks with this easily, it's so versatile and it's the only eyeshadow product I take with me when I travel.

Revlon Lip Butter In Pink Truffle I never really see people talking about this one and I have no idea why. It's my all time favourite lip colour. It's very neutral, only a little bit darker than my natural lip colour and therefore the perfect 'your lips but better' shade. I feel completely confident wearing this to school and I get complimented on it quite a lot. This also wears off evenly so it doesn't look funny if you haven't been able to apply it for a while making it the perfect lip colour for school/work.

No7 Natural Blush Cream in Romantic I've only had this blusher since September but look at how much I've used already! That has to be some sort of record for me. This is a gorgeous peach that looks really nice and natural on my skin tone. I only apply this with my fingers but it blends in really well. I think I'll have actually finished this by the end of the summer and I'll probably go back and get one in another shade.

Upper: Pink Truffle
Lower: Romantic

Week In Photos #42

You've Been Mangoed / Phoenix Rising / Boots freebies
Boots points! / Selfie / Jumping clay butterfly
Cinnamon swirls at work / Dog freaking out in the hail / New laptop

Apologies for my Week In Photos posts being very sparse lately, I seem to have gotten myself into a bit of a photo taking rut lately and I just don't have enough photos to do a post every week.

I've been up to quite a bit recently. I won £200 of Boots points so that has been a major highlight for me over the last few weeks. And when I went to receive them they gave me a lot of freebies so I can't wait to try out all the samples! I've also got an appointment on the 31st of May(the date of my last exam) to get my make up done at No7. It was also a good friend of mine's 18th. She had a house party and it was really good. Normally at house parties at least one of my friends gets too drunk and I spend half the night looking after them but this time everyone seemed to be behaving themselves(at least a little bit!). I've also gone back to school so I'm basically just studying 24/7 until the end of May. Fun! You can also check out all of the Paperbacks And Beauty Facts videos from this week on this playlist, would love to have some comments!

You may have noticed that I've been blogging everyday in April! What have you thought of this? Do you like having a post everyday or would you rather I went back to having a 3/4 posts a week schedule?

Book Review: Nothing To Envy: Real Lives In North Korea

Nothing To Envy by Barbara Demick is a collection of stories from people that have escaped from North Korea. Demick has focused on one city, Chongjin, an industrial city in the north of the county. It's part fiction but mostly based on the people she interviewed. There are six main 'characters' who are all very different. For example one of the North Koreans used to be a very big believer in the regime and was a model housewife, another was a doctor. I found this to be a particularly interesting read. As North Korea is such a secretive state, it's very hard to find out information about life there apart from stories told by the defectors, I think that was what really drew me to this novel. This won a BBC Samuel Jackson prize for non fiction and I can understand why. I learnt so many interesting things from reading this book. I had always assumed that the people in North Korea knew that their country was a lot different to everyone else's. But in this all of the people said that they were told that North Korea was actually the best off country, whilst they were hungry they believed they were lucky because as far as they were concerned everyone else was starving to death. It was a very interesting insight into the lies of North Korea's governments. I would thoroughly recommend this book, especially if you have an interest in politics or human rights. For me, this has started a fascination with North Korea and I'm now looking at some other books on the same subject.

Review: Nivea Lip Butter in Raspberry Rose

Confession: I had originally bought this as part of my 500 follower giveaway prize. What happened? I kept on sniffing it and accidentally hit it with my nose. Oops. So I had to keep it to myself. Not disappointed in the least. This is an absolutely amazing lip balm. The scent is so beautiful, it smells just like the raspberry Fruitella you get in the mixed packets. As lip balms go it's good quality. It's not greasy and sinks into your lips pretty quickly, leaving them feeling silky smooth. The only thing I dislike is that if you apply it too thickly then it makes your lips appear a lot lighter. Another major plus for this is the packaging, it's very slim. It's about half the thickness of a tin of Vaseline and it's a lot easier to open, perfect handbag essential!

What's your favourite lip balm?

Nail Polish Challenge #2

I got these Primark nail polishes in the 'Leopard Nails' set for my birthday. To be honest I wasn't really expecting a lot from these polishes. I really liked the nude polish. However, the darker polish was so hard to apply(which you can see by my shoddy application) and I found it to look similar to OPI's Siberian Nights which I enjoy using a lot more. These were both ok-ish for chipping, similar in quality to Barry M. In the end I will be keeping the nude colour and either giving away/binning the dark polish.

OOTD ft Topshop Joni Jeans

Jeans - Topshop
Shirt - Topshop
Necklace - Gift
Lips - Revlon Lip Butter in Raspberry Pie

And soon as I heard that Topshop were releasing extra high waisted jeans I knew that I was going to love them. I normally wear black jeans but when I saw this lighter wash pair I was instantly drawn to them and when I tried them on in the changing rooms I knew I had to buy them. They also go up to my belly button which means I can wear crop tops etc without feeling very self conscious. Topshop jeans are quite expensive(these are £36) but I definitely think they are worth it because they are so high quality.

And eh... the serious shot.

April Wishlist

April Wishlist

Perfume / Bag: Mulberry / Earrings : Topshop / Dress : Topshop

Nina Ricci- Ricci Ricci The last time I bought a perfume I was given a sample of this and I really like it. I wasn't too keen on it in the bottle but on my skin it smells so lovely. I hope to treat myself to this if I manage to downsize my perfume collection considerably.

Mulberry Del Ray This bag is so beautiful. At over £1000 I definitely wont be buying it but a girl can dream.

Cat Hoop Earrings Need I really say anything? These are so cute. I know that with the arrival of Sam I really should be a right old dog person, but I do still like cats.

China Blue Lace Dress This dress is so beautiful. I normally stick to black clothes and I think this would be great to wean myself onto colours for spring!

First Impressions - Crafty Creatives Box 10 #ccbox10

-Spoiler Alert-
If you are a subscriber to crafty creatives and haven't received your box yet then don't read on!

There are a million beauty subscription boxes going around and if I'm honest they've never appealed to me. They cost more money than I'd usually spend on beauty products every month and it's always a bargain on whether you're going to get bad things or good. But when I heard about Crafty Creatives, a crafting subscription box, I knew it was something I'd love. The thing about the beauty boxes is that things you don't like  you won't use, but in a crafting box it becomes a challenge, find away to use everything. I love to craft, it's a hobby I picked up from my grandmother. But life often gets in the way and I don't get the chance to do so often enough. I'd been umming and aahhhing over subscribing to this for ages and eventually I signed up, my first box being the April box. Each box is £12.95 which I think is good value for money considering that includes posting and packaging.

I was really apprehensive as to what the theme was going to be, it's so exciting trying to guess, especially when they posted a teaser picture on Twitter. This months theme was 'blue', I'll admit that when I read this on the card I was a little bit disappointed, it just sounded so boring in comparison to other months but as soon as I looked through the box this went away. It's full of hidden gems.

In every box you get an art card which has a piece of art on one side and a little description of everything in the box. This cute little illustration is by Catherine Moody.  I really love the picture but I'm not sure what I'm going to do with the card. If you are a regular Crafty Creative-r then please tell me what you do with the cards, I don't want it to sit and gather dust in my room!

There's also a kit in every box. This kit contains everything you need to make a blue bird felt mobile. I've already started making this. So far I've already cut out half of the bird patterns I need. I plan to finish it sometime this week. It would make a lovely present for my nephew!

These felt balls come all the way from Nepal, how cool is that? I really love all the shades, they go so well together. The art card suggests stringing them on a necklace, I think they'd look great all strung together on a nice(maybe green) length of ribbon. I might do that with them and give the necklace to my grandmother. I also might use these for a secret DIY I have in mind(if I do you shall see about it on this very blog!).

Next is this selection of glitter and beads from Stix2. I'm not too fussed about these if I'm honest. I really dislike glitter(I seem to be the only one) so I'll probably end up donating that to one of my friends taking art in the hope they can get some use out of it. The very fine beads are similar to the beads they use in caviar manicures so I might try using them in that way and seeing how they hold out. I've had a look on their website and they do have some pretty nice stuff.

Next is the A5 sheets of card. These confuse me. It says they are card but they feel like the gortex stuff we used to protect the tables with at primary school whenever we painted. I'm not too sure what I'm going to do with these. Mini canvas. This is far too cute! I can't wait to see what mini art I choose to grace this with. Although I wish it came with a mini easel, that would have finished it off perfectly!

These bottles of Americana acrylic paint are from Deco Art. I haven't painted anything since I finished my Int2 coursework over a year ago, my final piece was done using acrylic paint! I'm going to see what I can use this to paint. And if I can't think of anything to paint then I have a few friends that are doing advanced higher art next year that will probably happily accept these as a donation.

These cute little glass beads are from Musha Makes. I haven't decided whether I want to make some jewellery with these or whether I want to sew them onto something for some added detail. They are really beautiful though and I love the stuff on the online shop, especially the washi tapes.

The highlight of this box has to be the Jumping Clay. This is a new product. It's a jasmine scented air drying clay. It also comes with some instructions to make a butterfly phone charm, which I have already made. I really enjoyed using this. It wasn't sticky at all, it didn't feel like you were using real clay and it smelt so good! Would really recommend buying this, it's perfect for younger kids, so much cooler than playdough.

Another thing that I really liked was this fat quarter of cotton. How pretty is this material? It's the right size for my super secret DIY I've been mentioning, so look out for this material somewhere else!

And lastly these bird pendants. very cute. I'm going to string these to make two necklaces, one I will keep for myself and the other I'll give as a gift. Not sure who to give it to just yet though.

Overall, I'm really pleased with this box, I can't wait to get crafty and hopefully use everything. I'm definitely keeping my subscription and can't wait to find out what next month's theme is. Are you a Crafty Creatives subscriber? And if so what  did you think of this month's box?

Instantprint Business Cards

I entered a giveaway on Lizzie's blog to win 1000 business cards from Instantprint. I won! I was quite excited and set out to designing my card straight away. I got sent a range of templates, from Photoshop to Microsoft Publisher. This made it really easy to design the card, and I can imagine it would be no matter what operating system you use or what programs you have installed. I wanted mine to look pretty simple so I just used the illustration that Robyn done as my sidebar image and then my links etc. I was also asked whether I wanted a matte or gloss finish and I went with matte. If you are ordering from the website you also have the option of a velvet finish, although I'm not too sure what that will look like.

I sent away my design on the Wednesday night and they came on the Friday, I was very impressed at the speed of the delivery especially as the package was really heavy and the cards needed to be printed etc. The cards come in these great little plastic boxes which I think is a great added extra, say you were going to some sort of event and you wanted to take a whole load, this would stop them getting all scuffed and horrible in your bag. It hadn't actually hit me how many 1000 is until they came. So far I've given them out to friends but the general reaction so far has been "awww these are so cute". I also took these to the event at Zen Lifestyle, they were really handy and everyone thought I was dead posh. The quality of the cards themselves is great. They're quite thick and feel of really great quality. 1000 of these cost £39 which may seem expensive, but my mum has spent over £50 on less business cards for her hair dressing business and they were no where as good quality as these ones. I think these would be a pretty great thing to have if you have a blog, especially if you attend a lot of events. I don't, so I know that these are going to last me for ages. Thank you to Lizzie and Instantprint for these! You can order your own if you wish to here.

Review: MAC Supreme Sheen Lipstick in New Temptation

I won a MAC lipstick in Stacie from Life Is Worth The Fight's 100 follower giveaway. I was super excited for this so thank you Stacie! New Temptation is a lovely, pinky red. It looks very red in the tube but when applied to the lips it's more of a dark pink. These lipsticks are more glossy in finish than anything else. When on the lips this looks very sheer, I like this because it's not as bold as full on red lip so is great for 'casual' wear. Because of the sheer, glossy nature of this lipstick the wear time wasn't great, within two hours I found myself wanting to reapply this but I was expecting this. I really like the packaging of these lipsticks, I think they're a lot nicer and sleeker than the standard lipstick packaging. At £14.50 these are 50p more expensive than the standard lisptick which is a bit weird. Personally, I think these should be less expensive because with such a short wear time you're going to get less use out of the lipstick. But all in all I do really love this lipstick(thanks again Stacie) and am glad to have it in my collection.
